Wordpress CMS

Wordpress is one of the most affordable CMS solutions available.  This CMS started as just a blogging platform but has grown into a full Content Management System. Wordpress is packed with thousands of plug-ins, widgets and themes and makes it easier to optimize your search engine results.  It has a very large community of users and developers for additional resources.

Licensing & Availability

Under GPL v2 or later, Wordpress itself is free.  You may have additional low-cost fees for some themes, plug-ins and additional features.

Who does it suit?

  1. Individuals who are non techies but want to build their own site.
  2. Individuals and companies who want to do it themselves.  No more paying extra for programmers to fix small bugs and errors.
  3. Individuals and companies who want portability.  Wordpress is online. As long as you have internet connection, you can work from there.

The Drawbacks of the Wordpress CMS

  • No internal linking
  • No Ecommerce

Summary:

Wordpress is economical.  It is very easy to use even for non techies.  You don’t have to spend weeks just to learn how to do the basics – edit contents, add pages and upload images.  If you are able to work well with your emails and some social networking sites, you will do well with Wordpress. Although, if you are planning to do shopping carts and the like, Wordpress might not be the best for you.
