Magento is available in more than one version. One of which is a commercial license ideal for large organizations under the Magento Enterprise Edition End User License Agreement, and the other of which is in Professional Edition ideal for smaller to mid sized businesses. There is also a free version under Open Software License 3.0 – the Magento Community Edition.
Who does it suit?

- Individuals or companies planning to manage a lot(1000s) of products for their online shop.
The Drawbacks of the Magento CMS
- It is quite complex. It may take time to learn the CMS features and the limited documentation may make it a little harder.
- May need extra designer costs to get the best out of its development services.
- Can be expensive as you may require budget for a dedicated server.
Summary:
Magento is a great tool especially if you are into e-commerce marketing. With this platform you are able to manage a product in multiple stores, different languages, prices and location. But again it all depends on your need. If you desire to put additional features on your shop (communities, help desk and etc…)you may not find really good ones in this platform like other CMSs offer. But if you are looking at a huge sole shopping cart site with thousands of products, Magento can be a good choice.
